Bonkers 5 showcases an overall better collection of tracks from 1998 (well, besides Dougal's mix on Bonkers 4). You can definitely tell that Happy Hardcore is quickly leaving the raw kick drum and crunchy pipe organs behind in this volume, and sadly, it doesn't reappear anytime soon. DJ Hixxy's mix: Hixxy has finally pitched the tempo back up for this mix, and his track selection contains 100% Happy Hardcore material. Hixxy & UFO hve also joined forces, and honestly, it seems to work, especially with this time era in Happy Hardcore. This mix is also more cheesy than his Bonkers 4 mix, especially with tracks like "Legends" and "New Day Dawning". The "Legends" on this mix is a vocal version of the "Legends" off Bonkers 3 which gives it a cheesier edge. Some anthems include "Bright Eyes", "Virtual Dreams", and "Together Again". The last three tracks on this mix are by Scott Brown, so it's a bangin' finish. DJ Sharkey's mix: No Happy Hardcore, full on Trancecore with awesome mixing as usual. DJ Dougal's mix: His mix is still the slowest in the bundle, but it seems Dougal has taken on a few new ideas for his production. Sadly, these sounds are a bit repetitive and really don't pack a punch. The rest of the mix though is pure vocally cheese with tracks like "Wonderful World", "High In The Sun", and "Peace of Mind". This mix also contains one of the best remixes of "Shooting Star" I've yet to hear. It's not listed, but the version of "A Better Day" by Faber is the DJ Ham mix. Overall, with Bonkers 4, you get a nice showcase of 1998 Happy Hardcore. Anabolic Frolic's "Happy2bHardcore Chapter 3" also has a nice selection of tunes from 1998 that were not featured on Bonkers 4 or 5, especially from the Next Generation/Blantant Beats label.
